UNI Physics faculty and student participate in NSF REU program

faculty Lukashev & student HurleyIn summer 2015, Dr. Pavel Lukashev and UNI Physics major, Noah Hurley participated in the NSF sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) facilities. This program recruits faculty/student pairs from regional four-year colleges and universities to engage in summer research with MRSEC faculty, with the goal of providing a research experience which benefit both the participants and the MRSEC projects. In particular, Noah and Dr. Lukashev theoretically studied structural, electronic, and elastic properties of Mn2RuSn, a Heusler compound with potential device applications in spintronics.
