Dr. Kidd performed both his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, receiving a Ph.D in physics in 2002. He joined the physics department at the University of Northern Iowa in 2005 after his postdoctoral work in the condensed matter physics department at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

 

He has performed experimental research into a variety of low dimensional condensed matter systems. His research has been based on the electronic properties of such materials. These are the source of a wide variety of exotic phases, such as density waves and unconventional superconductivity, which are simply not found in macroscopic three dimensional systems. His current research interests include utilizing dimensional constraints and induced disorder to control and enhance the properties of low dimensional materials for possible use in futuristic devices.
