Photographs of renovation progress: September 19, 2006

September 19, 2006. The north entrance. This will be the new back entrance. A wooden platform is in place to allow demolition materials to be dumped (into a large dumpster on the other side of the platform). The dumpster occupies what will be the loading dock area. The loading dock door will be located at the window just beyond the entrance—what was the north window of Dr. Paul Shand's office (PHY 004).

September 19, 2006. Old room 009 (Acoustics Lab)—the acoustic isolation chamber was in the right corner. This will be room 001, the research lab for Dr. Fred Behroozi.

September 19, 2006. Old room 101 (General Physics I lab), new room 114, looking north. The concrete piers for the new seminar-style tables have been poured. The top level at back is about level with the lab tables that used to line the windows. The blackboard was at left, now behind struts for a future wall.

September 19, 2006. Ground floor (Level 1) hallway, looking west toward the elevator tower. The Butterworth Modern Physics Lab will be at right (room 014)—Dr. Paul Shand's former lab. At left will be the Modern Optics Lab (room 013)—this was the machine shop. The steps in the distance will be removed for the new western entrance (following removal of the elevator tower later in 2006).

September 19, 2006. This was the Electronics I lab on the first floor (PHY 109). It will be part of the new Physics Majors Lounge (rooms 101, 101A and 103). Immediately in front is the snack and Pepsi machine area, behind this (through a future wall) is an area for the ping pong table and a small kitchen, at left is a corner of the undergraduate research area (six computer work areas with storage.

September 19, 2006. The back of what was PHY 201 (the main lecture theater), the window at left was one of several that were bricked up, behind and below the wooden bleachers for desks. This will be the Dept. Heads office, room 215A, just off the main office (room 215)—behind the camera.
