Photo updates will be provided every four weeks. Let us hear what
you think!

Photographs of renovation progress: February 20, 2007

February 20, 2007. The new stairwell on the west side of
the building, from level 3-still in the midst of construction.
It starts from the top of the building (at attic level or
level 4) and is built as far as level 1. At lower left, the
curve of a future window frames the old elevator-due to be
demolished starting March 1, 2007.

February 20, 2007. Room 114 (old PHY 101) looking west. The
spackled wall in the distance isolates the new west stairwell-which
lies in front of the 1980 elevator tower. New concrete piers
for seminar-style tables are at right, behind the wood frames.
The air conditioning/heating venting above will be a part
of this room's appearance-all teaching and office areas will
have drop-ceilings except for the two lecture theaters (room
114 with 80 seats and room 301-old PHY 309-with 48 seats).

February 20, 2007. The level 3 Discussion Room, looking
south. White boards are being installed along both side walls.
Cardboard covers the new smaller steam radiator register below
the window opening [new windows will be installed starting
March 1]. Note the old red concrete floor molding below the
window-it has been retained in certain rooms as an architectural
feature from the building's first phase. This area was part
of a faculty office (PHY 307).
|

February 20, 2007. Level 2 looking east-straight ahead (the
better lighted area) was the front of PHY 201, the large lecture
room. This area is now a hallway leading to the yet-to-be constructed
Physics-Lang walkway. The Physics office is at right in the
distance; closer at right are the doors to the Physics Instructional
Technician's office (for Meg Yasuda) and the new Physics conference
room.

February 20, 2007. Level 3 looking west toward the new western
stairwell. Dr. Tim Kidd's office (room 304) and research lab
(room 302) are through the opening to the right, at front. The
floor molding and chair rail are new-the floor molding replaces
what was a concrete wall base. The area at right front-through
the opening-was the level 3 computing lab.

February 20, 2007. The photographer had his back to the old
north entrance ["Laboratory"], which survives. At
left, the new central stairway begins its upward trek-starting
where the inner entry doors once stood, bounding the old building's
small entry way [where Dr. Louis Begeman's photo was displayed
the past few years]. Ahead are new, wider stairs to the ground
level.
