Physics at UNIThe Physics Department offers many of the undergraduate educational opportunities associated with a large university as well as the informal and personal atmosphere of a smaller department. The Department prides itself in the close interaction between faculty and students both inside and outside the classroom. Personalized attention, combined with research opportunities and independent laboratory projects, allows students at the undergraduate level to work with sophisticated equipment and to learn what research in physics is all about. Students have opportunities to work with faculty in such research areas as: Magnetic Properties of Materials, Musical Acoustics, Optical Spectroscopy, Holographic Characterization of Surfaces, Surface Physics, and Physics Education.
The UNI Physics Club, directed by students, provides a good social setting for students and sponsors field trips to major research facilities and professional meetings as well as other events of scientific and educational value. |
